What is WIC?
The Women, Infant and Children Program is a supplemental food and nutrition program funded by the USDA and administered through the Ogle County Health Department. WIC is an equal opportunity program, serving pregnant and breastfeeding women, infants and children up to age 5 years.

To be eligible for WIC services you must provide proof that you:

1. Live in Ogle County (proof of residence)
2. Meet federal income guidelines (proof of income)
3. Have a nutritional need (this will be determined by WIC Nurse, based on diet assessment, lab tests, height & weight, and health assessment)

Enrollment into WIC is by appointment only-please call the main office or the branch office in Rochelle. You will receive an appointment letter before your first visit.

What will happen at my first appointment?

1. You will be asked for information to verify eligibility:
   • Proof of Income: Medical Card, or 2 check stubs from each person working in the home Or proof of child support received
   • Proof of residency: a mailing with your address on it, or a rent receipt (Driver's license or checkbook not acceptable)
   • Diet Assessment: You will receive a form for this with your appointment letter-please bring it along, completed, to your first visit
   • For Children: please bring a birth certificate and current immunization records
   • For Pregnant Women: please bring proof of pregnancy
2. Once you meet income and residency requirements, you will be asked to sign consents for services. WIC Nursing staff will then determine nutritional need for participants:
   • Height & weight
   • Hemoglobin test by finger stick
   • Health History questions
   • Review Diet Assessment
   • All participants will receive nutritional counseling based on evaluation of needs
3. You will be given food coupons to purchase healthy supplemental foods to enhance you or your child's diet. Nursing staff will give you instructions on how to use the coupons. (Click here for description of samples of food packages below)
4. You will be given an appointment for a return education visit.
5. This "Certification" will be valid for 6 months. After 6 months you will need to provide the above information again for "Re-certification".

WIC services are provided by the Ogle County Health Department either at the main office in Oregon or at the branch office in Rochelle.
